Last weekend saw us take 26 people to Blackpool for the Illuminations and Play Expo. It the second year running we arranged this trip and it was an even bigger success than the first visit.
The “Play Expo” weekend (12th & 13th October 2019) had our kids entranced as always. The show is the ultimate in gaming weekends in the north of the UK. The Expo saw their biggest ever selection of consoles, computers, handhelds and PCs on the Blackpool show floor and once in the exhibition, all the games are set to free play! The only disappointment for the show was ‘Northern Lights Pinball’ did not attend and so there were only ten pinball tables on offer. That said the trader’s hall was way better this year.
If you were part of our group and have more pictures please let us have copies.
As we did last year, on Saturday night we all took the tram up to Bispham and invaded a chip shop there. On the way up saw a fabulous sunset and had a really good chance to see all the lights on the way back. The only downside was just how packed the trams were for this popular spectacle. The restaurant is amazing! The food is fabulous and there is always a long queue to get in. The icing on the cake is… the cakes (haha), see the picture and you will get an idea of just how good their cream cakes are. Most of us got off the tram at the Coral Island arcade on the way back and most probably lost a few pennies to the machines and the prize bingo.
While some of the group returned to Play Expo on Sunday, a number of our group took the opportunity to visit the Sandcastles swimming pool.
All in all the kids (and parents) loved the weekend so much we are sure to go back again next year! For more Play Expo information see their website
It is possible to arrange to stay at the Norbreck Castle Hotel where the event is being held. However, we have friends at the Carousel Hotel at the other end of the seafront and were given our rooms at a special price. We also included free tram passes and Play Expo tickets for free during the trip.
